Política ERASMUS CUE - Erasmus Policy Statement (EPS)

The Institution agrees to publish this overall strategy (all three parts) on its website within one month after the signature of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education by the European Commission.

Please describe your institution's international (EU and non-EU) strategy. In your description please explain a) how you choose your partners, b) in which geographical area(s) and c) the most important objectives and target groups of your mobility activities (with regard to staff and students in first, second and third cycles, including study and training, and short cycles). If applicable, also explain how your institution participates in the development of double/multiple/joint degrees.

The IES Politécnico de Vigo expects to improve language and communication skills of our students and staff, and we are looking for
partners in countries where students and staff can develop their linguistic and technical skills in such a way that the mobilities they made can contribute with multiple development for the participant, not only technical but also cultural.

Partners are looked for, among other methods, by means of communication platforms such as E-twinning, through internet databases, through meetings of European agencies and through localized researches at the request of members of our institution.

The students and staff of our institution belong to technical areas (electricity and electronics, mechanical manufacturing, installation and maintenance and building and civil works), closely linked to the business sector in general.

With the training mobilities of students we pursue as objectives that they put the knowledge acquired during their studies at our institution to practical use in foreign companies, and also that they can learn new techniques and procedures, working in a different environment and communicating in a foreign language. It is important not only the transfer of knowledge to students but also to the companies that host them.

Regarding the study mobilities of students, it is important that they know the educational structure in a foreign country and that they develop their educational capacity in a foreign language. In addition, to be integrated in an educational environment in a different cultural environment , with different organization and away from their family is a personal rewarding component.

Staff mobility for teaching and also for training is very important for the improvement of the educational environment, not only in terms of content but also in terms of organization and educational structure. The exchange of experiences of the staff makes new goals and new projects in order to continuous improvement of education possible.

If applicable, please describe your institution's strategy for the organisation and implementation of international (EU and non-EU) cooperation projects in teaching and training in relation to projects implemented under the Programme.

The main aim of our institution is to progress towards the internationalization of our staff and our students. With that aim, the management encourages the staff to participate in various European projects, involving also the students to take part in activities. The participants have the support of the person in charge of European projects at our institution and also the support of the management team.

In addition, individual mobility activities can lead to new relationships and make proposals in international cooperation projects, which could involve several departments, coordinated by the person in charge of European projects at our institution and also supported by the management team in everything they need. The latter invigorate projects, will make them known in the educational and social environment and will provide participants with the necessary resources, promoting information and communications technologies.

Please explain the expected impact of your participation in the Programme on the modernisation of your institution (for each of the 5 priorities of the Modernisation Agenda*) in terms of the policy objectives you intend to achieve.

The participation in European programs is part of the modernization of our institution to offer better educational opportunities. National and international companies require high technicians to join skilled jobs, so that the number of people interested in this education can increase because of the fact that the vocational education offer is supplemented by training or an education period abroad.

In addition, the opportunity to learn or practice in a foreign language makes graduates more skilled and increases the chances of incorporation or promotion in national and international companies, likewise it strengthens cooperation between our institution and other educational institutions and companies in all spheres. This cooperation is in the interest of all parties, considering that companies inform us of the needs that they have in the workshops, they provide our teachers with training and information, and these ones transmit this knowledge to students in lessons.

The participation in these programs, together with language learning, gives students the chance to enter new labor markets. They can manage abroad, establish international contacts and facilitate mobility abroad.
